Leave it to travel expert Kelley Ferro to plan a killer destination wedding! St. Lucia was the gorgeous setting for Kelley's tropical wedding to her handsome hubby Dave. This adorable jet setter and TV host (you might recognize her from her hit show Get Lost with Kelley Ferro) gave us the scoop on her picture perfect big day!

How did your fiance propose?
I grew up in Vermont, so for Christmas break, I went back to my parents' home in my snowy homestate. Dave had told me he was going to join me the day before New Years to spend it me and my family. However, the day after Christmas he surprised me at Stowe Mountain Lodge, a place where I grew up skiing and had taken him several times. My mom was "supposedly" taking me to lunch there as a post-Christmas mother/daughter treat and I was flabbergasted to see my boyfriend of 7 years walk down the stairs. We had just talked on the phone minutes before and he was in New Jersey with his family!
The surprises continued as he whisked me to the mountain's gondola, saying we were having a special lunch at the top. On the way up in our private gondola, he gave me the sweetest card in the world which ended with "and I have something to ask you..." I was so surprised and elated--even talking about this gives me chills again! We had fondue and champagne on the mountaintop as we took the view--which for me was my ring!

With all the amazing places you have traveled, how did you decide on St. Lucia for the big day?
Travel is such a big part of my life--it's a passion that I made into a career. Of course, over the 7 years of dating, Dave and I took a lot of trips together and I really inspired him to get out of his comfort zone and see the world. He became smitten with travel too and together, it became a part of our relationship--taking small getaways often and one big trip each year. Saint Lucia a small getaway one winter to escape NYC's cold.
We stayed at a lovely hilltop resort overlooking this cove beach between Saint Lucia's iconic Piton Mountains. The beach in between quickly became one of our favorite places in the world and we had a huge photo of it hanging in our room every day. I just had a feeling when we were there that some day we'd get married there. Several years later, we got married on that same resort at Sugar Beach and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

What made you choose Nouvelle Amsale for your bridesmaids?
I really wanted my bridesmaids to wear something different and unique. I have been a bridesmaid several times and never have been able to wear the dress again. I was really looking for an original style that would be flattering on all body types, but I also wanted a really unique color. When I went to Bella Bridesmaids, I originally came in looking to check out a different style, but when I saw the Nouvelle collection and all the amazing colors, I was smitten.
Also, our setting of Saint Lucia is so tropical and vibrant--and it's also quite hot! I loved how breezy and comfortable the material was and felt the flow of the dress would be great for the beach. I also really wanted long dresses, without them being too hot this collection was the perfect combination.

How did you pick the style?
I gravitated towards several colors and just started trying on different styles. I narrowed it down to two similar styles that had great movement. They felt beachy but elegant at the same time. They also were lightweight and easy to wear--perfect for a beach wedding. I had 9 bridesmaids so I wanted to find something that would please everyone. I was so happy to hear that all the girls really loved the dresses and told me that they can't wait to wear them again!
What color did you chose for the girls to wear and why?
I chose the bold fuchsia hue and I'm SO happy that I did! I loved the way the color was deep & vibrant, but without being too overpowering. It also photographed really nicely. The groomsmen were wearing navy and I knew that on a tropical beach, the rich fuchsia hue would stand out yet also look natural with the bright flowers of Saint Lucia. Everyone at the wedding remarked how beautiful the bridesmaids all looked and I couldn't agree more!
