Engagement Party FAQs

Do You Need to Have an Engagement Party?

Many couples choose to have an engagement party, but it’s not an absolute must. However, there are some key reasons why it’s a good idea.

If you’re planning a long engagement, an engagement party is a great idea because it's an opportunity to celebrate your love now and later.

Having a far-off destination wedding and know that most guests won’t be able to attend? Then, an engagement party offers the chance to celebrate your union with friends and loved ones who won’t be present on the big day.

When Should You Have Your Engagement Party?

Most couples have engagement parties within a few months of the proposal and a minimum of six months before the wedding day.

Some plan quickly and throw a super casual celebration a week or two after the proposal. Others take their time and plan much more lavish, formal events.

Keep in mind that you can have any type of party at any time of day. For some engaged couples, a formal dinner or late-night dance party is ideal. For others, a midday brunch or a golden hour beach party feels right!

Who Should You Invite to an Engagement Party?

Your engagement party guest list can be as small or large as you like, but some people should definitely be on it.

As a general rule, couples should invite:

• Their parents & grandparents
• Immediate family
• Close friends

Traditionally, anyone you invite to the engagement party would also receive a wedding invite. However, you don’t need to invite every potential wedding guest to your engagement celebration. Some couples make their engagement party a smaller, more intimate celebration.

Do You Have to Bring a Gift to An Engagement Party?

You don't have to bring a gift to an engagement party. However, it's common courtesy to give a gift whenever you’re invited to a party.

Engagement party gifts do not have to be big, extravagant, or expensive. They can be small and thoughtful, like a bottle of wine or champagne, a picture frame to hold a future wedding photo, or a spa gift card for a couple’s massage.

Engagement parties are a great way to celebrate your new union and an amazing opportunity to show off your style in a stunning new dress.

If you choose not to have an engagement party but have already fallen in love with one of the dresses we showcased above, don’t worry. They all double as great rehearsal dinner dresses, too!
