Real Wedding Q&A: Sasha & Larry

How did you meet your Fiancé?

It's a funny story. I had just moved to Richmond, Virginia and my roommate had a mutual friend that was Larry's (my husband) friend. We all met up one day just to hang out and Larry and I hit it off!

Tell us about the proposal!

The proposal was pretty intimate and special. We had a fun day planned out at a festival that we really enjoyed every year. When we came home I went to change into my pajamas and sat on the couch. Larry was actually on his laptop and he asked me to come over and check something out. This was normal to me because we always shared funny YouTube videos or funny things that we saw on social media. He told me to sit down and then he began playing a PowerPoint presentation with music. He walked away to finish doing other things in the house and I quickly began to notice that it was a slideshow about him and I.

Towards the very end of the slideshow, there was directions to turn around and there he was... on his knee asking me to marry him! As I was saying yes and bawling crying he then minimized the screen and it showed my family on Skype. They saw the whole thing and they were crying too, LOL.

How did you choose the location for your wedding? What type of venue were you looking for?

We always knew we wanted a small intimate wedding. More specifically, a destination wedding. We choose Jamaica because my maternal side is from there. My family and I used to make tons of visits to Jamaica, so it's only right that we got married there. It was very symbolic.

How did you decide on your bridesmaids dresses? Tell us about your experience at Bella!

I knew even before I was engaged I wanted twobirds dresses. The versatility was something that I wanted for my bridesmaids because they all have different body types. In addition to that, the dress could also then be used for them to wear after the wedding.

When I found out that Bella Bridesmaids carried the line in Charlotte and Richmond I was extremely excited. I checked out Bella Bridesmaids online and it looked like the perfect boutique style place to get my dresses. It had a very intimate feel.

I live in Charlotte and my bridesmaids live in Hampton and Richmond, Virginia. It was great because one of my bridesmaids was able to go to the Richmond location for a fitting, while the other two came down for a visit and went to the Charlotte location. It worked out perfect! Both locations were very accommodating and knowledgeable about the twobirds dresses. All of our questions were answered. :)

Who designed your bridal gown? Where did you get it?

I got my wedding gown from Bedazzled in Gastonia North Carolina. It is in an Allure Couture gown. I've always wanted a vintage style gown, so it was perfect. I also was able to fit into the dress without any alterations… how amazing is that?

What was your favorite part of the day?

I have so many favorite parts of the day, but I want to say the first initial part was receiving notes from Larry as we were getting dressed for the wedding.

Then of course… actually walking down the aisle and seeing him standing there waiting for me! I told myself I wasn't going to cry, but I really couldn't help it!

What inspired you when you were planning your big day?

The biggest inspiration I had was simplicity for my wedding. I really didn't want it to be overdone. I believed in doing everything so it allowed for a richer experience that I can remember vividly.

What advice do you have for other brides?

I would advise them to write down what is really important for their wedding, this will help eliminate a lot of the influences we see now. There are so many different things that you can put into a wedding, but there are so many different things that you don't need as well. Good memories are the best thing to take away from your wedding day…so do what it takes to make sure that happens!
