Real Wedding Q&A (11/02/2015 Edition)

This wedding right here? Amazing! From the stunning outdoor ceremony on Kiawah Island, to the beautiful blooms and elegant tablescapes, this one is a must see!

How did you meet your Fiance?

We worked at the same company but different divisions and floors. We always had eyes for each other until one night we were all out for a co-workers birthday and long story short he was a whiskey drinker and I'm of Irish descent with the last name Powers. So I asked him if he wanted to take a shot of Powers whiskey (gross!!)...but the rest is history. We were inseparable ever since!

Tell us about the proposal!

We were in my hometown of Charlottesville, VA for Thanksgiving with my family. The day after Thanksgiving, we all went out to a few vineyards, only to end up at my favorite vineyard, Afton Mountain! He kept on saying he really wanted to do a good group photo with the whole family. He was scoping out the spot, found one, set his camera up on a stand and put it on auto shoot. We were jumping in and out of shots, the whole family, then brothers and sisters, then couples, then it was our turn and I go to pose with him and he was on one knee. Meanwhile the camera was actually on record, not auto shoot :)

How did you choose the location for your wedding? What type of venue were you looking for?

My parents live in Kiawah Island, SC. It's the most beautiful place ever and there wasn't any question about it!

We knew we were going to get married at The River Course for a long time. The date was actually locked in before I got engaged by my mom and fiancé. You pretty much have to book it out a year in advance and grab whatever's available! The view and venue itself are just stunning! You can't get that river view anywhere and the elegance of the clubhouse with natural wood elements is exactly what I wanted.

How did you decide on your bridesmaids dresses? Tell us about your experience at Bella!

My soon to be sister in law and her mother own the Bella Bridesmaids in Westport, Connecticut. They were at a market when they saw these dresses and sent a picture to me and I knew then  that's what I wanted! She got them sent to their store from Chicago and I was sold right away. I didn't need to see anything else! They were stunning! Still to this day the most beautiful bridesmaids’ dresses I've ever seen. Two of my bridesmaids worn it again a month later to another wedding :)

It was amazing! We went to the Westport, CT store which is beautiful! Madison and Maribeth were such professionals and knew the answer to any questions we had. The selection was great, but again I knew what I wanted. I 100% would recommend Bella to anyone.  All the dresses came in and on time and just as beautiful as I imagined they'd all look.

Who designed your bridal gown and where did you get it?

Romona Keveza from Gabriella New York Bridal Salon!

What inspired you when you were planning your big day?

Well I had the most amazing wedding planners in the whole world which made it quite easy on me! Melissa at A Charleston Bride and her staff took everything I pinned and dreamed of and made it all come to life. They are absolutely amazing! I will love them all forever!

What was your favorite part of the day?

I think the favorite part for both of us was when it was all over and we were riding on the back top of the car, we kissed, took a deep breath and just looked up at the stars as we were riding away with the most amazing breeze through the air. It was just an unforgettable sense of peace and happiness.

What advice do you have for other brides?

I know everyone says this but it couldn't be more true...when the day comes just enjoy it! You spend so much time and energy into planning this amazing event and in the blink of an eye it's over. Just take the time, even 2 minutes to sit back with your husband and soak it all up and just remember that feeling.
